Nature of Computer Science

Computer Science is concerned with understanding, designing, implementing and using computing systems, ranging in complexity from the components of a single processor to networks as vast as the world wide web. Computer Science integrates theory and practice, abstraction(general) and design(specific). According to the present view, Computer science can be suited in a broader context of computing. The discipline of computing thus encompasses Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering and information systems, design and development of computer systems, networking technologies, design data structures, creating graphical animations etc.

1    The discipline of computing is the systematic study of algorithmic processes that describe and transform information: their theory, analysis, design, efficiency, implementation and application.

2.      Computer Science is the study of phenomena related to computers.

3.      Computer Science is the study of information structures.

4.      Computer Science is the study and management of complexity.

5.      Computer Science is the mechanization of abstraction.

6.      Computer Science is a field of study that is concerned with theoretical and applied disciplines in the development and use of computers for information storage and processing, mathematics, logic, science, and many other areas such as

Ø  Computation

Ø  Communication (reliable data transmission)

Ø  Coordination (coordination among networked entities)

Ø  Recollection (storage and retrieval of information)

Ø  Automation

Ø  Evaluation (performance prediction and capacity planning)

Ø  Design (building reliable software systems)
